OEE Tracking Software: Measure the True Efficiency of Your Machines

A machine appears to be running, yet the target is missed at the end of the day: short stops, slow cycles and defective products are hidden losses. OEE tracking software turns these losses into numbers for machine efficiency monitoring.

Quick answerOEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) is a metric that measures machine efficiency as the product of availability × performance × quality. OEE tracking software records downtime and its reasons, cycle speed and defective product counts, and calculates OEE per machine, line and shift. Data can be collected automatically from the PLC or from the operator screen; Inspectra, developed by Hakan Sevimoğlu, performs camera-based inline quality control and OEE tracking.

How is OEE calculated?

  • Availability = actual run time / planned production time (downtime losses)
  • Performance = (ideal cycle time × units produced) / actual run time (speed losses)
  • Quality = good units / total units produced (defect and scrap losses)
  • OEE = availability × performance × quality

What OEE tracking software does

It gets machine status (running, down, faulted) from the PLC or the operator; classifies downtime reasons (breakdown, waiting for material, setup, unplanned maintenance); counts produced and defective units; and shows OEE and the largest loss items per machine, line and shift. Data is shared with the production tracking software and the ERP.

Quality control with cameras

Instead of manual counting, the quality rate can be measured by camera: Inspectra performs visual inline quality control using the iPhone camera and on-device AI, automatically feeding the quality component of OEE. Details: AI integration.

Frequently asked questions

What is OEE?

Overall Equipment Effectiveness; the product of availability, performance and quality rates, showing how efficiently a machine produces during planned time.

What is a good OEE value?

It varies by industry and process type; what matters is measuring your own baseline and improving it by reducing loss items.

Is data entered manually?

On machines with a PLC it is read automatically; on others it is collected via the operator screen or sensors.

How is quality data collected?

Through operator input, or automatically through inline visual inspection with cameras and AI.

Does it work together with production tracking software?

Yes. OEE data is shared with the production tracking software and the ERP per work order, shift and product.
