What makes quick delivery possible is stock accuracy in the software
The minute promise is kept not by courier speed but by how many seconds it takes to pick the order in the warehouse. If a product the customer added to the basket is not on the shelf, the order is delayed or arrives incomplete, breaking quick delivery's one promise. That is why at the heart of an app like Getir sits stock that updates in real time with sales and is verified by barcode.
A local supermarket chain can use its own stores as warehouses, while startups that set up a small warehouse (dark store) purely for online sales arrange products for fast picking. The software supports both models.
Customer app
- Serving warehouse and estimated delivery time based on address
- Categories, search and barcode-based product catalogue; out-of-stock products automatically removed from sale
- Minimum order, delivery fee, night rates and free delivery threshold
- Reorder, favourite products, promoted products and personalised recommendations
- Substitution preference for missing items: send a similar one, call me, remove it
- Online payment, payment on delivery and live courier tracking
The app is published for iOS, Android and web; push notifications and the promotion flow are designed from the start to drive repeat orders.
Warehouse picking and stock management
When an order comes in, a picking list sorted by shelf order appears in the warehouse staff's app; each product is verified by scanning its barcode, and a wrong item or missing quantity triggers an instant alert. The picked order is bagged and handed to the courier, and preparation time is reported.
Goods receipt, stock counts, expiry date tracking, low-stock alerts and supplier orders are handled in the admin panel. If the store already uses a barcode sales program or grocery store program, stock is read from there; sales from the till and the app reduce the same stock. For small businesses, the Kassa iPhone POS and stock app can also serve as the stock source.
Couriers, zones and the minute promise
A delivery zone is drawn on the map for each warehouse; orders cannot be placed outside the zone, and during peak times the delivery time is automatically extended or the zone is temporarily narrowed. Couriers are assigned from those available at the warehouse, and the courier app includes navigation, delivery confirmation and cash collection on delivery.
I build the live dispatch infrastructure with the setup I use in taxi and fleet projects: vehicle and courier locations are tracked on the map, and each order's waiting time in the warehouse, time on the road and total time are reported. These reports show whether the minute promise is realistic.
Food, grocery and other verticals on the same infrastructure
Quick grocery delivery and restaurant ordering can be combined in the same customer app: the grocery part runs on stock and warehouse logic, the food part on restaurant panel and commission logic. For a multi-restaurant food platform see the food delivery marketplace like Yemeksepeti page, and for a restaurant's own app see the food ordering app development page.

Frequently asked questions
What does it take to build an app like Getir?
You need a customer app, a warehouse picking app, a courier app and a stock-connected admin panel; payment, delivery zone and promotion infrastructure are added on top.
How is it different from a food ordering platform?
On a food platform, restaurants manage their own menus and a commission is charged; in quick grocery delivery, products are sold from the platform's or the store's warehouse, and a catalogue of thousands of products with real-time stock accuracy is essential.
Will it work with my existing grocery store program?
Yes. If your barcode sales or grocery store program provides an API or data export, stock and prices are read from it; sales from the till and the app reduce the same stock.
What happens if an out-of-stock product gets ordered?
When a product's stock hits zero it is removed from sale in the app; if it turns out to be missing during picking, the customer's chosen substitution preference is applied and the amount is corrected automatically.
Is it suitable for water, gas cylinders, flowers or pet shops?
Yes. The product catalogue, delivery time and zone rules are adjusted to the sector; features such as reorder and subscriptions stand out in these verticals.
How are price and timeline determined?
An itemised quote is prepared based on the number of apps, platforms, stock integration and number of warehouses; the first version starts with a single warehouse and a single zone.
