What does an iOS developer do?
An iOS developer does more than code the app's screens: they design the data model, networking layer, notifications, in-app purchases, security and the App Store process together. When the app's server side (API, database, admin panel) sits with a separate team, communication breaks down; I develop the iOS app and its PHP/Laravel backend together.
Technologies I use as an iOS app expert
- Swift 6, SwiftUI, UIKit, SwiftData and Core Data
- Camera and AI with Vision, Core ML and AVFoundation
- Maps and location with MapKit and Core Location
- In-app purchases and subscriptions with StoreKit 2
- Push notifications, background tasks, widgets
- HealthKit, Bluetooth (Core Bluetooth) and hardware communication
- TestFlight, App Store Connect and release management
Examples from my live iOS projects
Projects such as the Ezan Vakti app live on the App Store, the Kassa iPhone point-of-sale and inventory app that sells by scanning barcodes with the camera, the iPhone security scan app that scans the device for traces of spyware, and Inspectra, which performs camera-based quality control on production lines, include Core ML, Vision and StoreKit layers tested with real users.
What to look for when hiring an iOS developer
- Apps on the App Store whose links you can open and review
- Native development experience with Swift/SwiftUI
- Can they also build the backend and API?
- Can they resolve App Store review rejections (4.2, 4.3, 5.1.1)?
- Are the source code and Apple Developer account in your name?
- Do they provide support for iOS version updates after launch?

Agency, off-the-shelf package or freelance expert?
See at a glance which model delivers the most value for the same budget.
| Criteria | Software Agency | Off-the-shelf / SaaS | Hakan Sevimoğlu |
|---|---|---|---|
| Point of contact | Sales + project manager + team | Support line | The expert who writes the code |
| Cost structure | Office, sales and management layers are priced in | Per-user / monthly license, forever | Development work only |
| Fit to your business | Scope changes need extra contracts | ✕ You adapt to the package | ✓ Software adapts to you |
| Response time | Tickets, meetings, approval chains | Queued | ✓ Direct WhatsApp / phone |
| Technical depth | Depends on who is on the team | Limited customization | ✓ 18 years, every layer from mobile to IoT |
| Maintenance | Knowledge is lost when the team changes | Data risk if the product shuts down | ✓ Supported by the person who built it |

Frequently asked questions
Is an iOS developer the same as an iOS programmer?
Yes. iOS developer, iOS programmer and iOS app expert are different terms for a developer who builds apps for iPhone and iPad.
Only iPhone, or iPad too?
With SwiftUI, an app compatible with both iPhone and iPad is built from the same codebase; layouts tailored to the larger iPad screen are added.
Do you also build an Android version?
Yes. Native Android (Kotlin) or a suitable architecture for launching on both platforms at once is recommended depending on the project.
What happens if the app is rejected from the App Store?
The rejection reason is analyzed against Apple's review guidelines, the required changes are made and the app is resubmitted; this process is part of the job.
Who owns the source code and the Apple account?
The Apple Developer account is opened in your name, and the source code is handed over to you.
